How this page works
Where the cars come from
Every few hours this page checks Craigslist, Carfax, CarGurus (through Autolist), Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book, OfferUp and the websites of local car dealers for used cars priced $5,000 or less within 50 miles of Olympia.
Each car has a button that opens the original ad, so you can see it on the seller's own page and contact them.
What "clean title" means
A clean title means the state has never labeled the car as salvage, rebuilt, flood-damaged or junk. Cars with those titles can be hard to insure and to sell later.
Cars we leave out
We never show cars that a history report or the ad says have been in an accident, have frame or body damage, a salvage or rebuilt title, or do not run. We also skip ads where the price is really a down payment.
Buying safely
- Meet in daylight in a public place, or at the dealer's lot. Bring someone with you.
- Ask a mechanic you trust to look at the car before you pay. Many shops do this for about $100.
- Ask to see the title. The name on it should match the seller's ID.
- Never pay with gift cards, wire transfers or apps before you have seen the car.
- For any car, you can buy a Carfax or AutoCheck report with the VIN (the 17-character vehicle number).
